Baby boomers are defined as those born between 1946 and 1965 In the next few years the number of people aged 65-84 years is projected to grow from 2.4 million in 2007 to 6.4 million in 2056; the number of people aged 85 years and over is projected to grow five-fold from 334,000 to 1.7 million over this period. This represents a crisis for the current systems to support the aged in Australia. |
